I’m with you. President Biden was normalizing the abnormal. And looking quite happy to shake a vile man’s hand and welcome an insurrectionist to the White House. A peaceful transfer of power is one thing. Being friendly and conciliatory is another.
The vacant leadership of the Democratic Party is a place to start. If there is a functioning resistance it starts now. Being passive in the face of grave danger is disqualifying. Let us see what those who aspire to 2028 are made of. An articulate rallying of we disaffected is critical.
It was a terrible sight to see President Biden inviting Trump to the WH as if nothing is wrong. How can a great nation like America be restrained from requesting Trump be investigated as soon as he left office. Let justice proceed. Biden let us down. He was the most powerful leader in the world yet he allowed DOJ Merrick Garland to sit on his hands and did nothing until it was too late.
Did Biden and Garland failed us?
I’m thinking WHO saw all the law breaking and abuses trump did while in office. Was it DOJ who should have started prosecution? WHO is responsible to step up to call out the lawlessness? WHO should have taken a step and brought Trump to Justice before he became president again. The senate allowed Trump to escape after two impeachments. Now Trump ready to do damage for four years.
Maybe midterms will turn the tide. MAGAts control the SCOTUS, the senate and the house. It appears we are at a point of no return.
The DOJ is independent from the president’s office. Biden could not control how fast or slow Garland prosecuted the case. But that brings up another worrying issue: that people now think the president controls the DOJ, because Trump set that tone.
In a time of existential crisis, Mr Lincoln took extra- constitutional measures. Surely Mr Trump represents such a threat. Does Mr Biden have any immunity?
A couple days ago, I said to my husband that President Biden took an oath to protect against “enemies foreign and DOMESTIC”. I expressed my annoyance that none of the independent media I follow has even mentioned this. I got to that part in your article and threw my hands up and told my husband, Finally!
I agree and also feel that in addition to educating ourselves and staying engaged as citizens, we need a party apparatus that elevates talent and tries new ideas. Meanwhile the justice democrats may be returning to offer an alternative in some places. I suppose we all feel the sense of urgency, my fear is that the DNC doesn’t make enough change to how it operates and allow past mistakes to repeat themselves.
Hello? "Citizens United" $$$ buys power and SCOTUS we now know for sure that they are bought & paid for. Our elections should be a national holiday, a vote mandate should be in place, get rid of electoral college, candidates pass a background check as required with most jobs and get the money out of our politics!!!! EASY SOLVED IT!!!!! FFS
This sort of thing is why I gave up on the democrats in 1993. The Democrats lost their courage after the 35th President was extrajudicially removed from office on November 22, 1963. They all understood what had happened, even as they told the public there wasn't a deeper meaning to the assassination. What would the US - and the world - be today if the order to withdraw from Vietnam had been implemented? What would the sixties have been if the Cold War had been ended then? Would we have moved beyond the intense divisions?
To be disillusioned is to be removed from illusions.
So amusing in a way. The hindsight 20/20 articles. If Kamala had won in a landslide, would the democratic party be in a different place than it is now? I always turn the finger to the electorate, racism and misogyny will get you 80% of the way there. Maybe there's an argument to be made about messaging, but I don't think any democrat did a single thing wrong. This is what the country wanted and their not smart because of it.
No one was expecting a landslide victory for Harris. Definitely mistakes were made. For example, Harris should have had a few ideas on what she would have done differently then Biden.
Why do we need to hear it? We're witnessing it now. Those who have paid attention and stayed informed AND fought against it with their vote know exactly what is. I believe you've made 3 comments here about this.

Could we be seeing keep your friends close and your enemies closer and in the dark?!

I brought up this issue on another substack.

Of course it is you, Keith. Thank you!
Does anyone come to mind who could be up to the task?

Couldn't agree more.

I like to know where are they
Well said & thank you because personally I am tired of the talk 👄 it is time to take the gloves off and FIGHT!!
Democracy has been on a steady decline for decades and not surprisingly the working class didn’t support the neoliberal policies of Biden.

Are you trying to educate or indoctrinate?
