'She Choked': Trump Eyes Axing Pirro Over Reflecting Pool Flop

Sources say it's "highly likely" she's gone.

It took Jeanine Pirro two decades of televised loyalty to become Donald Trump’s top prosecutor in Washington. It took one honest court filing to put her on the chopping block.

Trump is now actively considering removing Pirro as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, according to CNN — two sources say the president is “furious,” fumed about her all weekend, and that it’s “highly likely” she loses her job. A senior administration official says Trump was “blindsided” by her filing: “The president did not know beforehand that she was going to do that.” The two spoke by phone Saturday. The conversation, per a source read out on the call, “wasn’t pretty.”

Her crime: telling a judge the truth about the Reflecting Pool.

Trump spent the spring bragging about his $14 million makeover of the Lincoln Memorial’s signature water feature, rushed to completion for the America 250 celebrations — complete with a no-bid contract handed to Atlantic Industrial Coatings. When the new blue liner started peeling within weeks, the president had an explanation ready: vandals with box cutters, working their way down the pool — “cut, cut, cut.”

The administration found its vandal in David Hearn, a 67-year-old three-time Olympic canoeist who says he paused a 64-mile bike ride on June 19, reached into the pool to feel the already-peeling liner, and left. On July 2, a grand jury indicted him on a felony carrying up to 10 years in prison — over a two-square-foot section of liner. Pirro herself stood at a podium and said he “violently” ripped it up. His lawyer, Norm Eisen, called him a scapegoat and warned that if touching the Reflecting Pool is a felony, “every American is at risk.”

Then, on Friday, Pirro’s office quietly detonated the whole story. Her dismissal motion revealed that a National Park Service engineer had flagged the “peeling” liner to the contractor about a week before Hearn ever stopped his bike — and that damage sat in the center of the pool, where no vandal would wade. The renovation, the filing said, was “hasty and botched.” Interior, Pirro wrote, stonewalled her office through “dozens and dozens” of requests before slowly trickling out documents that would have prevented the indictment entirely.

Trump’s response has been a masterclass in shooting the messenger. On Monday he told reporters Pirro “choked“ and “folded like an umbrella,” blaming a “vicious” judge — and when asked directly whether her job was safe, he snapped at the reporter: “You’re fake news. Don’t ever talk again.”

Note who isn’t in trouble. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum — whose department did the withholding, and who is still publicly backing the vandalism theory — retains the president’s full confidence.

And note what Trump conceded, mid-rant: he admitted it’s difficult to make out who’s actually on the tapes he keeps citing — before insisting the vandalism was “for all to see.”

Pirro hasn’t said a word publicly since Saturday.
